Lily Shen

2019 Keller Concerto Competition Winner

Lily Shen has lived in West Lafayette her entire life. Inspired by her siblings, she began taking piano lessons with Aleksey Madan when she was five years old. In her ten years of piano experience, she has participated in many competitions. Additionally, she plays the clarinet in band at West Lafayette Jr/Sr High School. She also swims for her high school team. In the future, she plans to continue playing piano and exploring music.

Christina Shi

2019 Keller Concerto Competition Winner

Christina, a senior at West Lafayette High School, has been playing violin for 10 years. She has been the concertmaster of the Wabash Valley Youth Symphony for the past 3 years, and has participated in numerous other musical activities such as West Lafayette’s Symphony Orchestra, Pit orchestra, and high school quartet. At age 12, Christina had the opportunity to play at Carnegie Hall, after placing at the AADGT competition. She also has been a part of the Indiana All-State Orchestra for the past 3 years and serves at her church weekly.

Outside of violin, Christina has played piano for the past 11 years, winning numerous competitions and having the chance to go to Carnegie Hall twice at ages 9 and 12. She also plays for her school’s varsity basketball team, and is Student Council President.

Peter Zhang

2019 Keller Concerto Competition Winner

Peter is a sophomore at West Lafayette Jr./Sr. High School. He is both a versatile violinist and pianist. As a violinist, he was a featured soloist in the Wabash Valley Youth Symphony 2018-2019 season. He was the first place winner in the Hoosier Audition State Violin Competition in 2018. He has also won the alternate prize for the 2017 Hoosier Audition Violin Competition (Joint-District with Indianapolis). He was also a participant in the 2017 MTNA competition.

An avid orchestral player, Peter has been a member of the Wabash Valley Youth Symphony since 8th grade and was a first-time member of the Indiana All-State Orchestra his freshman year. He participates in the West Lafayette Symphony Orchestra program and in school orchestras at the West Lafayette Jr./Sr. High School, both as a concertmaster and section member. Peter has performed and received gold medals in the Indiana State School Music Association Ensemble auditions.
As a pianist, Peter consecutively won first place in the Houston Young Artist competition from 2013 to 2015. He also won first place in the Jameson Piano Competition in 2019, first place in multiple categories at the Young Hoosier Competition at the Indiana State Fair in 2017 and 2018, and was a finalist with honorable mention in the 2018 Carmel Klavier International Piano Competition.
