Education Programs

There’s no better way to encourage appreciation for the arts than getting into schools to interact with children. We strive to reach as many students as possible during the year and our musicians travel from Newton to Tipton counties and everywhere in between! We offer a wide range of educational programs for schools, non-profits, and more.

Available Programs

Strings Attached

Cost of Event: FREE

The LSO’s Strings Attached program provides 2nd through 5th grade students with a free in-school, hands-on violin experience. For this program, an LSO musician visits up to 35 children per class in a general education classroom or during their music period for a 30-40 minute group violin lesson. Each child is provided with a ½ size or ¾ size violin to play for the class period. The Strings Attached program works in an open space or with tables.

Symphony on the Go

Cost of Event: FREE

The Lafayette Symphony Orchestra’s Symphony on the Go is an annual pair of daytime field trip concerts at the Long Center for the Performing Arts in Lafayette, IN. This event is free to 4th & 5th grade students in the 14-county region. The next Symphony on the Go will take place in February 2026. More information can be found in the registration form below, or contact info@lafayettesymphony.org with questions.

Cushion Concerts

Cost of Event: $40

The LSO’s Cushion Concerts are unique, interactive, kid-friendly performances in your library, recreational center, or daycare. For these events, an LSO musician shares music with your youngest patrons, engaging them with creative stories, music history, instrument physics, and more. In order to preserve the interactivity, we ask that you please attempt to keep the number of attendees at less than 100. The Cushion Concert only requires an open space; a stage is not required. Children can sit on the floor, or the facility can provide cushions or chairs.
