ABOUT THE LAFAYETTE SYMPHONY GUILD

Message from the President

The Lafayette Symphony Guild is an integral member of the LSO family.  Each year over 120 volunteers serve as ambassadors, providing financial and promotional support to the Lafayette Symphony throughout our geographic region.  Members facilitate the annual Symphony-On-The-Go concert offering over 2,000 fourth graders a chance to experience the music of the symphony.

The Guild holds its meetings the week prior to each concert to provide a special and musically informative experience for its members.  Our meeting day and time varies to take advantage of guest soloists and special programming.  Some meetings are morning coffees, some are luncheons and some are held in the later afternoon or early evening.  These gatherings provide opportunities to socialize while enjoying and growing in our musical knowledge and experiences.  Often our Maestro Dr. Palmer or our Executive Director Dr. Bootsma will discuss the upcoming concert and its high points.  Programs are presented or on occasion a member of the Symphony or a guest artist will perform.  I encourage all who have an interest in the Lafayette Symphony to join us.  If you are not already a member and wish to become one, please contact Mary Ellen Lovell at 463-5519 or mary.ellen.2@comcast.net for more information.

The Guild presents several fund-raising activities during the program year.  These have included the Holiday Home Tour, the Mother/Daughter Tea, the annual Blossom Ticket Sale and others.  Please join us to participate or attend.  Through these events the Guild was able to present the LSO with a check for $7,000 this past year.

One of the Guild’s most rewarding activities is providing break time refreshments to the orchestra members during rehearsals as many members of the orchestra who come some distance to Lafayette for rehearsal do not have time to eat before they arrive.  This also gives Guild members and orchestra members an opportunity to become better acquainted.

Each year one of our members who has provided outstanding service to the Lafayette Symphony Orchestra for a minimum of 10 years is awarded the honor of being named Woman of Note.  This year the Guild bestowed this honor to Trudi Wildfeuer.  Past recipients include:  Ruth Moran, Luella Fuller, Ruth Schlatter, Dorothy Van Cleef, Loraine Edwards, Josette Rolley, Patty Barrett, Sue Ritter, Anadell Lamb, Nellie Lechman, Nate Molter, Fran Thompson, Patricia Ross, Mary Mann, Mary Ellen Lovell, Kristel Kaye, Shirley West, Mary Hanna, and Jeanne Compton.

Please come join the fun!  Both men and women members are encouraged to participate.

Ruth Moran, President
